Laryssa Bonacquisti, a mass communication major at Louisiana State University, was crowned Miss Louisiana 2017 during the pageant on Saturday night.
Bonacquisti, formerly known as Miss Shreveport, will advocate for pancreatic cancer awareness, which her grandmother died of earlier this year.
She won competition’s talent portion with a rendition of “I Want to be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart.” The performance featured her puppets, Lucy and Lucky, yodeling and auctioning in three voices, including her own. Bonacquisti also won the swimsuit competition on Friday.
She will represent the Bayou State at this year’s Miss America Pageant this coming September in Atlantic City.
