18-year-old Monalysa Alcantara, representing the state of Piaui, was crowned Miss Brazil 2017 on Saturday night, held at the Teatros Vermelhos in Ilhabela, São Paulo coast.
She is an administration student and defeated 26 other candidates for the title. She will represent Brazil at the 2017 Miss Universe Pageant later this year. Monalysa is the third black woman to win the contest. In 2016, the winner was the candidate of the state of Paraná, Raissa Santana, second black to win the competition.
The first runner up was the model and student of financial management, Juliana Mueller, 25, representing Rio Grande do Sul. The second runner up was also a model and student of engineering, Stephany Pim, 23, who represented Espitiro Santo.
Monalysa Alcântara stands 1.77 m and weighs 57 kg. She enjoys being among friends and family, traveling to places with natural beauty such as waterfalls and beaches. One of Monalysa’s biggest dream is to become a singer.
