Miss Treasure Island, Mackenzie Freed, was crowned Miss California 2018 on Saturday night at the conclusion of the pageant held at the William Saroyan Theater in downtown Fresno. Mackenzie graduated summa cum laude from California Baptist University
Fifty-five women from across the Golden State converged to take part in three days of competition. The contestants were whittled down to 16 young women Saturday night. They competed in talent, evening wear and swimsuit categories, did a private interview and answered an on-stage question.
Freed will go on to represent the state at the 2019 Miss America competition in September in Atlantic City. Besides winning the crown, she also receives over 22-thousand dollars in scholarships and other prizes.
